Skyline Sunrooms had the privilege of building a freestanding contemporary patio cover for clients in Vista, California who completed an entire backyard remodel after purchasing their home.  Their backyard was a dirt lot when they bought the house.  “We transformed the [entire] space in about 5-6 months.  We put in a pool, turf, putting green, barbecue, dining area and bocce ball court.  The patio cover was one of the last things that was added to complete the look,” the homeowner said.

The patio cover stands over the barbecue area and has fixed louvers that provide natural light and ventilation – perfect for when the barbecue is in use.  There is also added lighting on the cover to make use of the barbecue in the evening.  The homeowner told us, “We wanted soft accent lighting.  Enough to see if we were cooking but not bright and blinding.  Our lighting is very simple which goes with our design.”

Attention to detail is extremely important when designing any space, and these homeowners did not leave a single stone unturned.  They thought of everything that would make the space not only aesthetically pleasing, but functional and enjoyable too.  When asked if they had a “must have” list while designing the backyard, the homeowner replied “Absolutely.  We had a laundry list of what we were looking for from colors, design, functionality and landscaping.”  There are a few additions they are still planning to add, including a privacy wall with a TV behind the barbecue and a garden.  Creating a wish list is beneficial with projects like this.  It helps you stay on track to accomplish your goals for the space.

While designing their outdoor space, the homeowners sought a modern resort feel; similar to a boutique hotel.  “We wanted the space to feel like we were on vacation,” they said.  They went with a black and white color scheme with grey (cement) features which led to their selection of a patio cover with a black frame and white louvers giving a cohesive, sleek and modern look.
Since completing the project, the homeowners are enjoying entertaining and simply relaxing outside in the California sunshine.  “We have friends over for BBQs and swimming and have enjoyed hosting parties as well.  We hang in the backyard with our pups, and we love to lounge and soak up the sun in the summer,” they said.  When asked what they enjoy most about their completed project they said, “That our design idea came to life better than we could imagine.  Everything is cohesive and feels intentional.  It flows well and the placement of each design aspect is perfect.”
